Dr. Skott Ahn has presided as President & CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company since 2007. His expertise in recognizing emerging mobile trends and creating innovative products to capitalize on those trends has been instrumental to LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company's continued success.
Dr. Ahn has been a key innovator and the driving force behind LG Electronics' cutting-edge technology. His leadership contributed heavily to LG's remarkable performance, the most notable case being the Black Label Series. As a former Head of LG Electronics Mobile Handset R&D Center, he played a vital role in development of the first handset in the series, the multimillion-unit selling Chocolate Phone. He also led the launch of LG Secret, the third handset in the series following the successful Shine Phone. The PRADA Phone by LG, co-developed with fashion house PRADA, and the LG Viewty, which combines the highest-level technology and features with stylish design, are all the outcome of his management focus on consumer insight.
Dr. Ahn became Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Mobile Handset R&D Center in 2004, and has been at the forefront of LG's expansion in the global WCDMA (UMTS) & GSM markets ever since. His vast experience and knowledge in mobile telephony have been key factors in the release of market-leading products such as MP3 phones and 2.0- and 3.0-megapixel camera phones.
As Vice President of LG Electronics Digital Audio Video Business Company in 2001, he led the firm to the top of the global rankings, reaching 17.8 percent market share in 2003. Prior to that, as Vice President of LG Electronics Technology Support Division in 1999, Dr Ahn successfully boosted LG's R&D effectiveness and prioritized the recruiting and retention of top quality, high caliber talent.
Dr. Ahn studied electronics engineering at Seoul National University before joining LG Electronics in 1982. He continued his studies after joining LG, earning his Ph.D. at Seoul National University in 1992 and later finishing the Advanced Management Program at the same university in 2005.
