History:

Anand Mahindra was born on 1st May, 1955 and is the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of one of India's largest companies, Mahindra & Mahindra. He now lives in his home town, Mumbai. Anand had graduated from Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Magna cum Laude with High Honors. He completed his MBA from Harvard Business School, Boston, Massachusetts in 1981. After this he returned to India and joined Mahindra Ugine Steel Company, which is also known as MUSCO. He became the President and Deputy Managing Director of the company in 1989. At this point of time he took various initiatives to expand the company and also started the diversification of the Mahindra Group into new business areas of real estate development and hospitality. He was appointed Deputy MD of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd in 1991 and climbed more ladders of success by becoming the Managing Director in 1997. In the year 2003, he was also given the additional responsibility of Vice Chairman. Anand Mahindra was also the co-promoter of Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd., which had begun operations in the year 2003 and was then converted into a bank. The Kotak Mahindra Bank is also regarded as one of the foremost private sector banks today. The company also launched the most adored SUV of India, the Scorpio, under Anand Mahindra. This car has also gone global today and has helped the company to reach new avenues.

Family life:

Anand Mahindra is married to Anuradha Mahindra, who is known popular as the editor of 'Verve' and 'Man's World'. She is also the editor-in-chief of Rolling Stone India. Anand and Anuradha have two daughters.

Interests and hobbies:

Anand Mahindra has ken interest in football and is a big football fan himself. He takes care of the Mahindra United also. He plays tennis and has now taken up sailing as one of his additional interests. The Masters of Business Administration had originally studied architecture and film in America. But till date he continues to remain a keen photographer.

Additional Activities:

Anand Mahindra is the co-founder of the Harvard Business School Association of India. This association has been dedicated to promote professional management in India and the organization has grown substantially over the years. The business man has also been the ex-President of Confederation of Indian Industry for 2003 to 2004. He was also the President of the Automotive Research Association of India and is a director of the National Stock Exchange of India Limited, under the "Public Representatives" category. Mr. Mahindra takes interest in issues related to education. He is also the Trustee of the K.C. Mahindra Education Trust that gives scholarships to students. He is on Board of Governors of the Mahindra United World College of India and is the Chairman of National Safety Council of India. He became the Founder Chairman of the Mumbai Festival launched in January 2005, which was the first comprehensive festival that celebrated the rich cultural diversity of the city.

Mr. Mahindra was given the 'Knight of the Order of Merit' by the President of the French Republic, the Rajiv Gandhi Award for outstanding contribution in the business field in the year 2004, Leadership Award from the American India Foundation in 2005, Person of the Year from Auto Monitor in 2005, the CNBC Asia Business Leader Award for the year 2006 and also the Most Inspiring Corporate Leader of the Year 2007 from NDTV Profit group.
